Tisha Campbell Opens Up About The A Word
On September 19, I had the opportunity to attend an event featuring actress, singer, and author Tisha Campbell, where she discussed her book, The A Word: A Mother’s Journey Through Autism and Love.
Campbell shared an intimate look at her family’s journey, particularly her experience raising and advocating for her son, Xen. With honesty, heart, and her signature sense of humor, shespoke about navigating therapies, schooling, and the everyday challenges and triumphs that came with ensuring her son received the support he needed.
One of the most compelling moments of the discussion was Campbell’s revelation that her years of advocating for Xen ultimately helped her better understand herself. At age 57, Campbell learned that she has ADHD a term commonly used to describe the co-occurrence of autism and ADHD.
Her story demonstrates that The A Word is not only about a mother’s love and determination; it is also a story of self-discovery, acceptance, resilience, and understanding. Campbell’s journey offers a personal perspective on neurodiversity while highlighting the powerful role that advocacy and unconditional love can play within a family.
