[LEFT TO RIGHT] CEO Rod Batson with DJ Chose, a Helping Heroes employee, and DJ XO
Roderick Batson is a one of a kind entrepreneur who successful owns 7 companies. 4/7 companies are committed to hiring those with special needs, teaching life skills to these individuals, and making them feel included, scene, and heard. Batson and his agencies are able to teach skills like marketing and communication to special needs individuals to help further their independence. Within these job opportunities, these special needs individuals are able to connect with customers and gain hands on experience. Something that not many agencies for those with disabilities are able to do.
Batson has had a strong desire to help the special needs community as his cousin had disabilities before passing away during the pandemic, and he saw how his cousin was able to do activities that no one else believed he could. His late family member drives his passion to help those that not many are able to, especially in providing lifelong skills that will help them in the future.

K.I.S.H. Exclusive Interview with Trailblazer Roderick Batson!
KISH: Tell us about yourself. Who are you, and how would you describe your journey so far?
Roderick: I am a Houston/Katy, Texas–based entrepreneur and community leader known for building businesses that combine commercial growth with social impact. Beyond business, I’m a Family-oriented and community-minded, with strong involvement in youth sports and local initiatives. My journey has been an impactful one, as i view myself as a pillar in the community and a trailblazer for many social causes.
KISH: When did you first realize this was your dream or purpose? Was there a defining moment that set you on this path?
Roderick: During COVID, when i saw Tom Landis on The Today’s show, with a special needs employee, God spoke to me and said it’s time. It’s time to do something outside of the box and pursuing opening Howdy Homemade Ice cream was that first initial “jump”.
KISH: What challenges or obstacles have you faced while pursuing your dreams, and how did you overcome them?
Roderick: Challenges are trying to do more, with a lack of support! There’s so many individuals, with special needs or disabilities, wanting the chance to have normalcy in their lives but there’s such a lack of opportunity and resources.
KISH: What motivates you to keep going, especially during difficult or uncertain times?
Roderick: Seeing the impact that you’re making by hearing the joy and excitement from an individual, with special needs, looking forward to their next shift at work-the first and only job they’ve ever had. Getting FaceTime calls from employees with Down syndrome, as they say thank you and now feel empowered. This is life
KISH: How has your background or life experience shaped who you are today and influenced your work?
Roderick: Growing up with a cousin that had down syndrome, really impacted the way i view and deal with the population that i serve. I learned a lot from observing my cousin EZ and interacting with him. With a little patience and love, anything in possible.
KISH: What accomplishment are you most proud of so far, and why does it hold special meaning for you?
Roderick: Employing over 50 individuals with special needs, is a huge accomplishment for me. It’s meaningful because I’m one of the few that chose to focus on this population and find meaningful employment for them but also, after losing my cousin EZ, i felt like i gained more angels like him.
KISH: What sets you apart from others in your field? What makes your story or brand unique?
Roderick: My brand is unique because it’s mission driven. It’s for profit but it also has a mission and that mission is to serve those that are underserved
KISH: What advice would you give to someone who is afraid to pursue their dreams or feels stuck in their current situation?
Roderick: Jump. You can never deploy that parachute and coast eventually if you never jump.
KISH: What’s next for you? Share any upcoming projects, goals, or visions you’re excited about.
Roderick: Exceptional abilities children shelter. I’m going to put a lot of focus and efforts behind this project, as we are one that will focus on keeping sibling groups together.
Exceptional Abilities provides a safe, nurturing environment for children removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. Our mission is to offer stability, healing, and hope, ensuring they receive the care, resources, and guidance needed to rebuild their lives. Through compassionate support, education, and therapy, we help children overcome trauma and gain confidence. Working closely with social workers, foster families, and the community, we create a protective network, giving every child the opportunity for a brighter future.
