Aaron Avont Johnson

Award-Winning Director,

Writer, and Producer

KISH: When did you first realize this was your dream or purpose? Was there a defining moment that set you on this path?

Aaron:  The moment everything shifted happened in my childhood home at the age of 9 years old. My mom was struggling to edit a project on her laptop, and I decided to help her figure it out. I stayed up all night teaching myself how to edit. By morning, I had completed her presentation. That was the spark. That was the moment I realized I was meant to be behind the camera. Something about the process felt natural, exciting, and familiar as if it were like purpose introducing itself to me for the first time.

KISH: What challenges or obstacles have you faced while pursuing your dreams, and how did you overcome them?

Aaron: My biggest challenges have been navigating this industry without a blueprint, breaking into rooms not built for newcomers, and constantly having to prove myself. I’ve faced financial limitations, closed doors, and seasons where it felt like no one believed in the vision but me. I overcame those moments through prayer, consistency, and the values my family instilled in me; stay grounded, keep God first, and keep going. Every obstacle taught me resilience and sharpened my creative voice.

KISH: What motivates you to keep going, especially during difficult or uncertain times?

Aaron: My family motivates me. Their strength, sacrifices, and unshakeable faith have always been my anchor. I’m also motivated by the stories I haven’t told yet; the ones that are still inside me. Even in uncertain seasons, there’s always a reminder that my purpose is bigger than any obstacle I face.

KISH: How has your background or life experience shaped who you are today and influenced your work?

Aaron: Growing up in Miami exposed me to cultures, voices, and experiences that shaped the way I see the world. My upbringing taught me resilience, creativity, and the beauty of storytelling rooted in truth. My life experiences, both the victories and the challenges, fuel my desire to represent real people, real emotions, and real journeys on screen.

KISH: What accomplishment are you most proud of so far, and why does it hold special meaning for you?

Aaron: My proudest accomplishment is my family documentary "Embracing The Dream" which can be seen on Amazon Prime. It’s a raw, honest look into our journey, our struggles, our love, and our history. It’s more than a film; it’s a piece of our legacy. Sharing our story with the world was emotional and healing, and it reminded me why storytelling is powerful.

KISH: What sets you apart from others in your field? What makes your story or brand unique?

Aaron: What sets me apart is my vision. I’ve realized there are people who may write better, edit better, or create differently, but no one sees the world the way I do. My perspective, my instincts, and the way ideas form in my mind are what make my work unique. I create from a place of spiritual grounding, emotional truth, and an eye for detail that has become my signature.

KISH: What advice would you give to someone who is afraid to pursue their dreams or feels stuck in their current situation?

Aaron: Start where you are with what you have. Purpose doesn’t require perfect conditions; it requires movement. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. You don’t need permission to begin, and you don’t need validation to keep going. And most importantly, trust that the vision God gave you is yours for a reason. Walk toward it, even if you’re scared.

KISH: What’s next for you? Share any upcoming projects, goals, or visions you’re excited about.

Aaron: I’m currently working on several new projects across film and television that I’m actively pitching and developing. I’m also preparing to graduate college, which opens a new chapter in my journey. I’m excited to collaborate with new talent, expand my production company, and continue bringing stories to life that inspire, challenge, and uplift.
